Since photographer Mike Zeis tries to look at common subjects in uncommon ways, his work helps us take a fresh look at the things we see every day. Zeis owns and uses a digital camera, but prefers film cameras. And the cameras he uses most often are as common as his subjects. A photo of the Marcus Garvey rehab center in Roxbury, MA, taken with a $40.00 toy camera, won first prize in the 2008 Blackstone Valley Art Association Spring Arts Festival. Zeis's photographs have been shown in the Alternatives Community Gallery and the Visiting Artist's studio in Uxbridge, MA, and at the SoHo Gallery in New York. Zeis is a contributor to the quarterly Light Leaks magazine, and has spoken at the photo industry's annual Photo Marketing Association convention. Zeis is an officer in the Northern Rhode Island Camera Club. Early in his career, Zeis took photographs and wrote for the Chatham Courier newspaper in upstate New York.
