I am a painter specializing in local landscapes, particularly the cranberry bogs. Living in Carver, Massachusetts, the local cranberry farms supply a never ending array of seasonal images to draw from. My latest series delves into these transitions.Most of my days begin with a walk around the bogs with my current canine companion, Shelley. Invariably, something will catch my eye and I'll just "have to paint it". I'll set up my oil pastels and paint en plein air. If time or weather conditions do not allow, I will often sketch the scene from memory back in the studio. These sketches have a strength to them because they are in a sense gesture drawings; forcing me to evaluate just the essentials through extensive editing.Whether it be in the “open spaces” these cranberry bogs provide or through the emotional reaction these experiences evoke, I feel very fortunate to find a lifetime of artistic pursuits right in my own back yard.
